There are many benefits to donating to charity. There are tax breaks, decluttering from your house, and just that general good feeling you get inside when you do something good. While the monetary benefits of tax breaks is wonderful and the clean house you get when you declutter, it is this warm fuzzy inside that we’ll focus on here.

For many of us, today’s economic climate is a tough one. Many people wonder where their next check will come from, how they will feed their children, and where the next meal will come from. While we all struggle with the tough economy, most of us are lucky enough to have the basic necessities that we need. We worry about our jobs being cut or applying for unemployment, but the basic needs for food, shelter, and transportation are taken care of. If you are one of the lucky ones that has your basics taken care of, now is the time to help those who are less fortunate.

It doesn’t matter how much you can give. The important thing here is to just give – whatever you can afford. Maybe you can’t afford to give cash. Why not clean out your closet and donate some clothes that no longer fit to good will. Maybe you could collect canned goods for the homeless shelter or even volunteer to serve a meal at the homeless shelter. Look around and see what you can do to help others.

When you do get outside yourself and donate to charity, the feeling you get inside is simply priceless. For a moment in time, you are able to forget your own worries and focus on doing some good in the world. There’s an old saying that says, “Forget yourself and go to work.” It’s true in life and when it comes to donating. Forget yourself and help someone else in need.
