The holiday season seems to bring out the best in people. Many people are kinder, friendlier, and much more giving than they would be at other times in the year. No matter what brings out this kind spirit, charities are grateful for open hearts during the holiday season. If you are feeling in the giving mood, here are some charities you can consider during this festive time of the year.

1.    Sub-for-Santa. Check with your local United Way for a Sub-for-Santa program. Here, people donate gifts, food, time, and money to help give Christmas to a needy family. You can donate toys, help with the shopping, or even help deliver the presents to the family.

2.    Make a Wish Foundation. You can actually donate to Make a Wish any time of the year, but during the holidays it is especially important to help fulfill a child’s wish. After all, this is the time of the year when children believe the most. Help a child believe in the magic of Christmas.

3.    Church groups. Perhaps your local church, even if you do not attend the congregation, could use some donations. You could ask the pastor or priest how you can contribute. Church groups are often among the first to help needy families during the holidays. Your contribution could help someone in need in your community.

4.    The homeless shelter. Volunteer time, money, food, or warm clothing to your homeless shelter. Spending even five minutes at the homeless shelter will quickly make you appreciate all of the bounties you enjoy in life.

There are plenty of reputable charities you can donate to this holiday season. Think about what you have to offer and then go out and do good in the world. And remember, your charitable donation is a tax write-off, so you win as well!
