‘Tis the season for generosity and kindness. Around the holiday season, more people tend to open up their hearts and their wallets to help those in need. Charity donations are highest during the holiday season. People particularly tend to focus on the homeless and homeless shelters when it comes time to donate to charity. Below are some of the things homeless shelters are most in need of.

1.    Cash. Any charity is always in need of cash. You can donate money and then the shelter can purchase the supplies they need to help the homeless.

2.    Warm clothing. Coats, sweaters, shoes, and socks are important items for the homeless, especially as the weather turns cold. Clean out your  closets and donate any clothing that you no longer wear but is in good condition. Check your children’s closets for clothes that no longer fit them.

3.    Food. Non-perishable food is a wonderful donation to make to the homeless shelter. Food with plenty of protein, like peanut butter and beans are good choices. Organize a food drive in your neighborhood or the local school and then take the goods to the shelter.

4.    Time. Most charities operate with volunteers. Give of your time to serve a meal, help with administrating tasks, or other things the  shelter might need willing hands and time for. Your time doesn’t cost you a thing, but it could mean a lot to someone who is need of help.

Open up your hearts and help those in need. Homeless shelters are a great place to focus your charitable efforts. You will feel happy for helping someone else. There is great need out in our world. Take a look around and see how you can help change the world and make it a better place. All it takes is one person to make a change.
