If you have decided now is the time to donate to charity, then you may be wondering what to give. Many people want to help, but they just aren’t sure where to go or what to do to be the most useful. Charities all over the world are in need of donations in order to operate and help those in need. Below is a list of items you could donate to charity.

1.    Money. All charities need money. It costs money to run the organization and buy the supplies. You can donate a lot or a little. Every penny helps when it comes to donating money. Choose the amount you are most comfortable with and then send a check to the charity of your choice.

2.    Time. Volunteers are very important to running a charity. If you have some time to serve a meal to the homeless, volunteer at the homeless shelter. If you are really good at the computer, volunteer to help run the office or coordinate a charity drive.

3.    Food. Many charities, such as the homeless shelter and abused women shelters need food. Canned foods, especially those with protein, are the most useful. You’ll want to make sure your food donations are non-perishable so they can be stored if needed.

4.    Warm clothing. You could also donate new or used clothing. Take some time to go through your closets and see what kind of clothing you already have that you could donate. Coats, sweaters, pants, shirts, scarves, and gloves are all useful to charities.

If you still aren’t sure what you can donate, even after reviewing this list, call up a local charity and just ask. You may be surprised what a charity in your area is in need of. It’s time to open up your heart and help someone who is in need.
